Will Kasso Condry

Will Kasso Condry is a renowned visual artist, graffiti scholar, and educator living in Vermont. Growing up in the inner-city of Trenton, New Jersey, Kasso’s only escape from the negative images that plagued his community was art. Painting and drawing became his loyal friends at a time when many of his peers were falling victim to the streets.

As he grew up, the need for self-expression empowered him to create in a variety of media all the while avoiding the violence and conflicts that surrounded him.

Education

Studied Fine Art & Illustration

Kasso studied fine art and illustration at The College of New Jersey as a first-generation college student. He furthered his education in the art of aerosol painting with the mentorship of legendary graffiti artist Daniel “POSE 2” Hopkins. Kasso refined his artistry in large scale mural production under the tutelage of Dave McShane at Mural Arts Philadelphia.

Experience

A Community Muralist and Organizer

Kasso is a co-founder of Vicious Styles Crew, Trenton’s premier aerosol art production crew. Kasso also founded S.A.G.E. (Styles Advancing Graffiti’s Evolution) Coalition, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization focused on organizing inner-city beautification projects in Trenton. Kasso previously served as the Alexander Twilight Artist-in-Residence at Middlebury College where he completed extensive mural and portrait art at the Anderson Freeman Resource Center in 2017. Kasso and his wife, Jennifer Herrera Condry, are the owners and creators of Juniper Creative LLC, a community mural and healing arts initiative. Together, they travel and facilitate community mural projects with local schools, universities, and community-based organizations. Most recently, Juniper Creative completed community mural projects at Princeton University’s Butler College and Carl A. Fields Center for Equality and Cultural Understanding, Middlebury College McCullough Student Center, the University of Vermont Mosaic Center for Students of Color, and Ben and Jerry’s.

He is a visionary and Afro-futuristic artist well-known for his use of color and layers. Additionally, his life’s work centers on using mural arts as a vehicle for community-building, activism, beautification, and healing. For over 20 years, Will’s public art initiatives and civic engagement have had a profound impact by helping vulnerable and fractured communities come together to creatively solve issues that affect their neighborhoods and everyday lives. Kasso firmly believes in the power of art to inspire, empower, create dialogue, and improve lives.

As a teaching artist, Kasso works with colleges and K-12 schools offering an experiential learning environment for all students. He has taught courses on the Origins and Politics of Graffiti and Street Art and the Elements of Hip-Hop at Middlebury College, and elementary school classes on the art of illustration, puppet making, and mural painting.
